The South China Sea - China's Challenge to US Influence
NBC News's foreign correspondent Janice Mackey Freier was on a patrol flight over the South China Sea. The US Navy P8 Poseidon surveillance aircraft flew over man-made islands that China has been fortifying and the US sees as unlawful. A Chinese J-11 fighter jet about 500 feet off the wing flew beside the aircraft for well over an hour. It's a sign of a more assertive China along with deeper ties to Russia and to North Korea, Chuck says.
