Patients with essential tremor, a cousin of Parkinson's disease, are often disabled by their tremor for years. One patient was treated with focused ultrasound to destroy in the middle of her brain abnormal nerve cells that were firing away uncontrollably causing the shaking. At the end of the treatment for the first time in more than 10 years, her hand was rock steady.
