Lovecraft describes in remarkably precise detail how he writes weird fiction. He says that his average procedure is this five-point process where he creates a scenario and he notes that the scenario happens almost entirely in his head. There's a secret affinity between what Lovecraft does and what a lot of avant-garde fiction is interested in doing it just so happens that one hangs out in sort of a trash stratum of culture and the other is at least until relatively recently more academically sanctified I think the recent academic turnabout on pulp fiction has much to do with a budding awareness that there is in fact a secret affinitybetween the avant- garde and the pulps or at least certain
