Is Your Union Always Left, Led and Militant?

When I first came, the union was really run by senior white male faculty. It was a service union to be fair to them. But this strategy really fell apart in the aftermath of 2008 financial crisis. So we had really, really harsh austerity. And so, as they say, necessities, the mother of invention, we organized and got strong because we had a particularly bad boss.
