The Criteria for Inclusion of Female Gay Writers
Anyone who had written anything about the theme of female same-sex desire from the Renaissance on was included. It turns out in my reading that the greatest lesbian writers in the western tradition are in fact men sort of beginning with Shakespeare all the way through to Hemingway and D.H. Lawrence. My own approach is different, less ideologically fraught perhaps, and I hope less compromising.
