In europe, yellow was used to mark out individuals who were unwonted or disapproved of. In the midle ages, jews often had to wear yellow hats, but sometimes they would be badges as well. Of course, in the early 19 forties, the nazi party deliberately and consciously revived the old idea of marking out jews with a yellow with a yellow badge. That was the way of othering them. And we see it in art as well. When you think for instance, of the great paintings by jotto judas in many artists at work, was often shown wearing a yellow er outfit. And that would have immediately been understood by contemporaries in the middle
