The European Union Is Starting With the Thing That's Hardest and Less Urgent
The European union is going after end-end encrypted messaging, even though a small error could put people all over the world at risk. I actually made a piece of design fiction called interoperable Facebook with the FF that's basically a user manual for a fictional version of Facebook that has been forcibly federated by regulators. And it's about how you as the end user would use it, how it would be compatible with privacy law and so on. Because I really feel like we've had this great extinction of memory of what we can do with technology.
