The Tyler v. Hennepin County Oral Argument
A four year old Mrs Tyler owed $15,000 in back taxes and late fees penalties on her property. She didn't pay it so they took title to her property then a year later they sold it for $40,000 but kept the other $25,000 that she didn't owe them. The question for the court is whether this was a violation of the takings clause or excessive fines clause.
