Crassus's death completely changed the political balance. Without him, without him in this three-headed monster, he ended up in a boxing match. And so he became the dictator almost by default. I think if Caesar could have ruled things another way, he might easily would have done. He was a risk taker and that seemed to me to be parallel with what happened after the fall of the Soviet Union.
