Democrats have the advantage of having more college educated voters who show up and vote in every election. Republicans, I think they ran weird campaigns, not necessarily bad campaigns, but where they did not have the advantage from the get go like around the scientists piling up money to get credibility with conservative media. They were just focusing on a lot of hot button issues that clearly normal voters were not paying attention to. This kept happening because you had a lot of Republicans obsessed with things that only the base cared about.
