Using Light to Spike a Light Based Optogenetic Approaches
Many of the different opsins that exist are just ones that are found in nature. There's a separate class of people who mutate either new found opsins or existing opsins to make better foror different properties. The class of opsin that i'm most interested in are these red shifted obsins that have also been tested to see how well they work in the two photon regime.
