John Simes was getting respect he had never had before. Students at Harvard embraced his theory of a hollow earth with animals living inside of it. John left on tour in New England and Canada while Reynolds state in New York promoted his own polar expedition. In late 1827, Sim's chronic stomach problems became much worse. He returned to New Jersey where friend and relatives cared for him and in February 1929 he died.
