Is the Christian Faith Anti-Artism?
Vasari says the christian religion did not do this by reason of hatred that it bore to the arts, but only in order to humiliate and cast down the gods of the heathens. In fact, as we have just been showing for vasari, i think, in truth, the christian vision of the world is one of the only ones that can sustain the heights to which art is able to ascend. That's a very renaissance thing to be saying, and sort of daring in the context of the saris moment.
