The Differences Between Males and Females
If you can get a female to follow you with your dung ball, you get away from everybody else. A different kind of beetle goes into that same elephant dung pile and instead of carving a ball, goes into a tunnel underground. In both of these cases, you've got males fighting other males to get access to females. But that one difference in behavior makes all the difference in the world.
