Thatcher's 'The Winter of Discontent'
The winter of discontent itself is in some ways quite separate to all the industrial militancy that had grown up in the inthe seventies. There grew up this belief that trade unions werere running the country, or attempting to run the country and creating chaos. That probably led to an increase in the conservative vote at the 19 79 general election which led to the first conservative government under margaret thatcher. It was a really, it was about some fairly self contained pay disputes in the public sector. But those were quite high profile, a, and some of the photographs and reports that came out of them, am were a quite e motive.
