Why Does Taiwan Matter?

The current policy is one of ambiguity, whether we will or won't defend Taiwan. That made sense for many years because what we didn't want then was for the Taiwanese to say, Hey, the Americans are with us 100%. Now I believe it's different under Z is telling his country to prepare for war. He's told his military to be ready by 2027, if not sooner to defeat our military. If we try to intervene and he's talking about being the world superpower, not a superpower, the superpower. It seems like the president's instincts are heading in that direction.
