Methane is hundreds of times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. As bad as the ecological consequences could be, it's not as though destroying these two pipelines would put Europe in a tougher spot than it already was. The killing of Dügena around the same time as the Nordström attacks are also likely to have been a Ukrainian operation aimed at her father. There have been other unexplained unattributed explosions and attacks inside Russia.
