Designing a Humane Future

00:00

Introduction

This is part two of a two part episode that focuses on homelessness. The fact that homelessness still exists points to the deep failures of interconnected systems that are rooted in inequity. They were five times more likely to die of coved chrono virus outbreaks and shelters resulted in the need for social distancing measures, which meant reduced capacity. People who were unhoused encampments showed up in parks and other public spaces. This created tension amongst concerned residents. City officials and the advocates for those living on the treets have provided health care, food, clothing, hygiene supplies and supportive services from outreach organizations.
