The spread trot strategy is definitely, in my the better way to put it on. Usually before a big event, the implieds tend to a price and more expensive options. So i'm not to using that option strategies for that kind of stuff anybut your but you're saying that you need to be more than is a straight buyer of options due to the fact of the heightened volatility.
