The Meaning of Anger and Desire

The moral of the tale is that anger at times goes to war with desire, as though they were two distinct things. When a man's desires violently prevail over his reason, he reviles himself and is angry at the violence within him. But in the conflict of the soul, spirit is arrayed on the side of the rational principle most assuredly. We may observe, even in young children, that they are full of spirit, almost as soon as they are born.
