The Afro-Pardon of Pessimism

The pessimism comes out of an intellectual relationship to the emancipatory claims of two macro theories. What we were seeing was that if you turn your head sideways and listen to people on the barricades or on a march, people do political work. We are pessimistic not at the explanatory power of these two things but at their emancipatory optimism.
