The History of the Macaroni
The macaroni was a term used to describe men who were allegedly over fond of their own appearance. It came from parodies that appeared on the stage or in print culture, and alleged there was something unmanly about this kind of over dressing. Allegedly young gentleman from aristocratic families who've gone out to Italy and picked up a taste for Italian food and French fashion is where it comes from.
