Banks did not fail everywhere, but they failed spectacularly. In the 18 18 thirties there were about 25 thousand banks in the united states. If canada had had the same banking structure, ten per cent of its banks would have failed. So it's ta lesson in how banking systems are fragile and volatile and vulnerable to the extent that they are distributed in the way ours was.
