Joe had stolen the Lai and Lai again at the Fourth NPC. Everyone there who watched him on that day in January 1975 knew this would most likely be his last final major public appearance. By mid-1975, Deng had taken things sufficiently far enough whereby Mao decided it was time to take him down. Everything you can see today, as far as China's great achievements in agriculture, industry, defense, and science and technology can trace its roots to this 1975 NPC speech.
