The Saxons were a germanic tribe that, while helpful at first, ended up ruling the island of britain. Vordegern marries the daughter of hengist in a pagan ceremony, which both conveys to his people that he values the relationship with these foreign occupiers more. TheSaxons eventually went by the name anglo saxons, but i'm just going to sick with saxon for now because it's simpler.
