The ICO and Others Investigate the Hacking of the Electoral Commission System
This looks very much to me like a nation state attack. There's no money here. They're not going to get any money. If they did download the electoral data, maybe they could sell that or maybe they could combine that with other pieces of data and do an insanely good fishing campaign. That seems highly unlikely. This looks like a very patient, a very sophisticated team of hackers sponsored by a government somewhere in the world. Someone would have accidentally thought they were talking to someone they weren't talking to. So that would be my hunch. What I'm interested in is how the ICO and others investigate this. Already the electoral commission has come forward and John Pullinger was right. And
