Is There a World That's Not Rational?

Rationality is something that you kind of can't get out of. We do have institutions like science, like responsible journalism and liberal democracy which are imperfect but better than just asking some guy on the street. How do people come to trust the institutions that deserve trust? I'm not a virologist. None of us knows enough science to evaluate these recommendations on their own.
