In France, King Louis Philippe and Francois Guiseau were among those who recoiled at the memory of the French Revolution. In Germany, constitutional regimes existed more as a stopper to prevent revolution than any kind of expression of liberal idealism. Alexei de Tocqueville argued that all the quote unquote gains of theFrench Revolution had already started under the Auncyon regime.
