If you could get a separate the light from the planet, from the light from stara something like saturn would appeara bigger than it should. The spectrum of the material in the rings, because it solid ice, would look different from the spectrum of the gas in the planetary atmosphere. Thereis an asteroid orbiting in the outer solar system, which also called it a star. And it also has a pair of rings aroundt really. So somehow the asteroid, like uranus, was able to form narrow rings. We have no idea why that is.
