How to Get Data Without Being Creepy

How do you toe the line in getting the data without being invasive or creepy? There are a couple of parts to the answer to that question. In our industry, it's quite easy not to fall into the creepy trap. I think in industries, probably more FMCG less service, that becomes harder. Part of it comes down to offering the customer choice. And then there is increasingly an expectation that data will be used to give a benefit to the customer.
