The Borders of Human Displacement
In 1808, the German philosopher Johann Gutlib Fichte argued that the truly natural borders of states are internal borders based upon invisible bonds and human characteristics. The French philosopher Etienne Balabar argued that natural borders are a political myth. As a result of invasions and colonialism, many borders are entirely political, geographically arbitrary creations.
