The Importance of Understanding Quantitative Models
I think if you want to work in this field intelligently, you have to be a little bit schizophrenic. You sort of have to, you can't avoid using mathematics, but you have to keep looking over your shoulder all the time and saying, I know this isn't really right. So I think you have to sort of keep being suspicious about everything you do. In physics when you get a PhD,. you have to go through a lot of hard struggle to not just derive equations but understand what they mean in a qualitative way.
