The role of the British in trying to deter the conflict is also important. Had they sent the fleet into the Baltic in the spring of 1853, it's likely the Russians would have understood the message and backed away before they invaded the Danubian principalities. So there was a small moment where it could potentially have been avoided, had different actions been taken.
