The History of the Snuff Film
The term itself emerged in the 1970s. In 1971, an allegation was made in Ed Sanders' book The Family about Charles Manson's Dune Buggy Attack Battalion. He charged that they were making quote-unquote brutality films and he later referred to these and coined the term snuff films. And then we had one particular film that came along to just sort of push this to the next level.
