The Difference Between Authority and Power
There's a cleaving of the idea of authority. One is who's been given the authority, I mean, the proper social, the social authority to act. And then there's authority in terms of actually having knowledge and character, etc., etc. People are endlessly trying to undermine any form of legitimate authority. We've kind of decided that it's better to let 10 guilty men go free than to convict an innocent man. So we see all powers being really just the mask for various interests.
