i don't have a strong argument as to what caused this period of crisis. What we know is that it was a prolonged period of political instability across eurasia. It forced, i think, it really disrupted e trade, overland trade especially. And when you turn inward again, your connections fray. So the older phrase, and this is what's lost in the seventeenth century crisis, because then eventually there's material recovery.
