There are two tales of cataclysm and destruction prior to the emergence of humanity. The female sovereign Yuwa ruled over the race of proto-humanity for 180,000 years. Fuxi was either born, or just descended to earth, smacked ab in the middle of the Yellow River Valley. In all cases, heaven is a dome above the earth, and earth itself is square with its corners in accordance to the cardinal directions of the cosmos.
