I always say to a new foreign correspondent who has any chance of getting foreign trips is never go to a country without researching it in depth. For example, first time I went to do some undercover work in Cuba. I read all the Cuban poetry, saw great films like Memories of Unded Development and Gabriela and Fanti. So by the time I got there, I was immersed. The Wambam, thank you, Mambam thing, of flying in, talking to the taxi driver on the way to the airport and then flying out, having been magisterial.
