The Detective Force in London
The detective force was quite a recent innovation in dublin. They were founded at a department in 18 forty two, just a few months after the london metropolitan police gained their first detective force. The detectives who ended up leading the inquiry into the murder of george little had been one of the very first detectives appointed in Dublin. There was a lot of public hostility to the idea of detectives at first because it was quite a novel idea that you would have a policeman who wasn't in uniform. But they soon proved their worth because they were extremely effective at clear ring up major crimes and so on.
