What Are the Early Innovations in Computing?
The 19th century did see early innovations in computing. How significant do you think they were in laying the groundwork for the world that we see today, which is so dominated by computing? I mean, in lots of ways, sadly, possibly very little. Charles Babbege and Vence start speculating about his calculating engines right at the beginning of the 1820s. And it's telling that the man with a mechanical brain is a diplomat. There's exactly somebody who needs to be in command of all of those numbers.
