Oedipus knew he couldn't go home to Corinth. He loved his parents, but not like that and did not want anything to happen to them. Oedipus was the time of heroes, where a young man couldn't throw a stone without finding a monster to fight or a murderous daddy had to beat for a princess's hand in marriage. If there was a time to go in a self-imposed exile, this was it.
