The Mashika Cities of Mesopotamia
Mashika cities used a bit more writing, and more of it survives. More of it is archaeologically accessible than the mayan ruins in the yukatan. And so we have some more clear stories from the mashika people themselves about who they were and where they came from. Tenoctitlan grew rapidly and became a city of possibly as many as a million people in the mid 14 hundreds. There's no surviving census. We can't say exactly. But it certainly was a very large city, and might, for a while, have actually been the largest city in the world.
