Are We Creating Habits?

Our lives are sort of the accumulation of habits, and we're creatures of habit. Obama famously said he has two suits so that i can focus my brain energy on one thing at a time. We need to revisit these routines every now and then - but does this make behaviour change more difficult later in life than earlier in life? And what's the optimal frequency with which we need to kind of revisit these routines? Do we need to like, have a periodic brain wash, or scan of of eof the habit stack to figure oute which ones still useful and which ones need to be revised or discarded?
