The best selling car in america in 18 97 was an electric vehicle. The problem has always been the batteries. Electric cars were sold as cars suitable for women. They didn't have a crank handle, and women were assumed to be weaken. It's only in the 19 nineties that consumer electronics changed people's perception of electric cars. And now they're seen as being rubbish and slow - but also super-fast.
