Stephen Segal: Today we're on the podcast channel, New Books in Eastern European Studies with our guest, Lenny A. Orena Valerio. She studied and had her PA in history at the University of Puerto Rico, and she received her PhD in Central Eastern European History from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her dissertation, The Stakes of Empire, Colonial Fantasies Civilizing Agendas and Bio-Politics in the Prussian Polish Provinces 1840 to 1914, was awarded the Distortation Distinguished Distortation Award in Polish Studies by Piazza in 2010. This book won several awards, won the Kuchitski Prize in Polish Studies
