The Labour Party's Landslide in 1997
In 1997, the Tories lost four and a half million votes. The Labour Party gained two million. A couple of million people simply absented themselves from the electoral process. It was the lowest turnout since 1935. There was genuine enthusiasm for Tony Blair. But I think it was those Tory voters just simply going away.
