The Rosetta Stone
The Rosetta Stone was a stone unearthed by Napoleon's soldiers in the Egyptian town of Rashid. In 1799, no one could read Egyptian hieroglyphs because humanity had collectively forgotten how to read them. A Frenchman called John Franz Sperchampolion eventually cracked the code and deciphered ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs for the first time in well over millennia.
