Polo farnsworth came up with the idea of breaking down an image into lines. He was immediately sued by r c a for patent infringement, but won his case. The scanning line system became the basis for all analogue television and it's still the basis for digital displays to day. T v sets in the 19 forties cost between two to 600 dollars - this was at a time when the average american salary was around 13 hundred dollars per year. Once the war was over, television exploded in popularity.
