The Home Medicalization of Deafness
By 1850, you see the emergence of all surgery, which we now call auto-neurongology. I decided to start there because when we think about deafness, what does that really mean? It's really about like fixing the body storing the body back to quote unquote normal. So for me, in the 19th century, it seemed like a logical place to start.
