The Importance of Probability Ratios in Horse Racing

A likelihood ratio for a negative number describes how the probability of the disease shifts away from the possibility of that disease being present. The further away it is from one, the more confident you can be that that patient does not have the disease. So they're great for comparing tests rather than isolated numbers. They are only as good as the original test that created the sensitivity and specificity values that we use to work it out.
